Skateboard: The Movie
Director: George Gage
1978 / 97min / DCP
Produced by Law and Order mastermind Dick Wolf, Gage’s Skateboard, co-written with Wolf, is a high-style snapshot of SoCal skate culture in its heroic age. In deep debt to an increasingly impatient bookie, desperate no-account Hollywood agent Allen Garfield cooks up a last-ditch scheme to balance his books by putting together an all-teen skateboarding team and entering them in a neck-breaking downhill race, as one does. 1970s Tiger Beat heartthrob Leif Garrett stars, Z-Boys legend Tony Alva stops by to carve it up, and the gang has never looked better than they do in this new restoration from a lost 35mm print, a decade-plus labor of love by Gage.
World premiere of new restoration.
