The Irishman

Director: Martin Scorsese

2019 / 209min / DCP

The intermingled history of organized crime and organized labor in the mid-century United States is at the center of Scorsese’s remorseful, decades-spanning saga, employing digital de-aging on stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Pesci—in his first on-screen role in nearly a decade. Playing the part of Russell Bufalino, the Philadelphia mob boss who recruits De Niro’s delivery truck driver into a life of contract killing, Pesci’s exquisitely shaded performance is a journey from the serenely confident corruption of middle-age to the fragility of dim senility.
