A forgotten indie actioner that became a cult phenomenon after its 2012 restoration and re-release, Miami Connection stars Florida-based Taekwondo instructor Y.K. Kim, who bankrupted himself to produce this stirring story of a war between a gang of motorcycle-riding, cocaine-stealing ninjas and a perfectly ridiculous “rock” band, Dragon Sound, made up entirely of martial artists. (Kim is on rhythm guitar.) Title aside, the film—both hilarious and rather moving in its shabby, sincere deployment of clichés—takes place largely in Orlando, but because it’s more fun than a dozen trips to Disney World, we couldn’t very well leave it out.
