1992 / 93min / DCP
Aspiring filmmaker Adolpho Rollo (Steve Buscemi) can’t pay his NYC rent or talk to his gorgeous neighbor (Jennifer Beals), much get his unfilmable 500-page opus of a screenplay made into a movie, but when trying to sell it off for a quick buck via an ad, he meets an unlikely “producer” in the person of Joe (Seymour Cassel), a rascally, cigar-chomping raconteur with a checkered background. A Sundance sensation quite recently restored in all its grubby black-and-white beauty, and a blackly funny meditation on both the criminal compromises of the hapless independent filmmaker and the comic chasm between the out-of-work artist’s ambition and his reality.
Intro and Q&A with Alexandre Rockwell Tuesday, August 16
