2017: The United States has become a totalitarian police state, riven by riots, and after Arnold Schwarzenegger’s police captain refuses to fire on an uprising, he’s made a contestant on the survivalist television game show The Running Man, pitted against a series of bloodthirsty gladiators for an enthusiastic home audience of ghouls. Glaser’s lurid, over-the-top media satire takes its inspiration from a pseudonymously published Stephen King short story, featuring Kotto as a leader of the underground resistance and Match Game staple Richard Dawson as the show’s sadistic host.
