In making a film on the photographer Edward Burtynsky, known for his large-scale studies of industrial landscapes, Baichwal simultaneously explores the social and psychological fallout of globalization, traveling with Burtynsky from China to Bangladesh and fixing her camera on the human workers who appear as mere specks in her subject’s photographs.
