Weird Medicine Shorts

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Multiple Dirs
2016 / 54min / Digital

Featuring Paul Wong and Kenneth Fletcher’s body art performance piece, 60 Unit; Bruise (1976), in which Wong is injected with Fletcher’s blood; Brigid McCaffrey’s Bad Mama, Who Cares (2016), which observes geologist Ren Lallatin at her new desert home poised between rail yard and interstate; Interviewing Qi Gong Masters (1989), a Chinese state-sponsored documentary; and Morgan Quaintance’s Missing Time (2019), a meditation on historical and national amnesia, England’s colonial legacy, and alien abduction.

“With this program of artist films and archival deep cuts, we wanted to ask where the immaterial boundaries of medicine lay. Beyond mysticism, what tools exist to investigate experiences in the realm of the energetic?” —Series curators Callie Hernandez and Courtney Stephens

Co-programmed with Emile Klein, sound designer/mixer of Invention.
