Nights of Cabiria

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Federico Fellini
1957 / 110min / 4K DCP

Arguably the high point of Fellini’s collaboration with wife and muse Giulietta Masina is her almost Chalplinesque turn as Maria “Cabiria” Ceccarelli, a naïve Roman streetwalker who struggles to keep her dream of romantic deliverance intact in the face of callous clients, fake friends, her violent pimp lover, and the daily degradations of a life of poverty. A film of enormous pathos and easygoing humor which won Masina Best Actress honors at Cannes and gave a young Pier Paolo Pasolini an early screen credit, hired by Fellini for his intimate knowledge of the argot of Roman streets. “Fellini’s finest film.” —Pauline Kael, The New Yorker

“Cabiria, one of the great female characters in cinema history, inspired The Lost Daughter through her strength, determination, and also her vulnerability in moments of immense solitude. I return to the films of Fellini constantly, and they never cease to amaze and inspire me. The images he created on screen are so potent, unconventional and original. His world is imbued with symbolism, surrealism and fantasy in a way that invites us all to explore our own imagination.” —Inbal Weinberg
