Los Muertos

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Lisandro Alonso
2004 / 78min / 35mm

“I’m interested in the world of convicts.”—Lisandro Alonso.

Los Muertos, Lisandro’s sophomore feature, is a trancelike, deadpan down-the-river journey into the depths of the jungles that line the banks of the winding Paraná, following a newly freed middle-aged convict, Vargas, an accused murderer, as he plunges into the primeval forest, in search of his daughter and in flight from the ghosts of his past. A work of daringly and disarmingly original visual language, from its opening scene of bloody, beautiful fratricide to its final frame, infused throughout with an air of foreboding and insoluble, absorbing mystery.
