Saturday Afternoon Cartoons: Kings & Presidents
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
2024 / 60min / 16mm
Curator Tommy José Stathes joins Metrograph in mid-February with Kings & Presidents, a selection of vintage animated shorts that royally fit the bill for Presidents’ Day weekend. Come enjoy three different animation superstars campaigning for the US presidency; a mischievous king playing practical jokes at an art museum; Old Mother Hubbard’s dog cheering up a depressed royal court with some vaudevillian flair; a sociopathic cat king making life miserable for his mouse subjects; and, last but not least, a noble adventure featuring the most irritating Golden Age cartoon character to ever grace cinema screens. Spanning the 1930s through to the ’50s, this assortment showcases classic characters such as Betty Boop, Popeye, Olive Oyl, The Little King, and more.
