Replying to rumors of strange goings-on in the woods of Norway, the government’s official position is that it’s just a few pesky bears, but when a trio of students from Volda University College decide to head in with a camera in tow to make a film about a suspected poacher (well-known comic Otto Jespersen), they soon discover he’s really hunting much more dangerous prey. Distinctly Scandinavian in its droll sense of humor and its folkloric references, Øvredal’s snuff film mockumentary is a black comic standout from the crowd of “found footage” horror films that appeared to capitalize on the The Blair Witch Project phenomenon.
