A sort of triptych film inspired by the work of limnologist George Evelyn Hutchinson, the three disparate tributary threads of artist and filmmaker Komljen’s heady, definition-defying sophomore film—shot on 16mm, digital, VHS, and Hi-8—are united by the importance in each of water. Leaping through present, past, and future in utterly distinct and beguiling open-ended vignettes that flow together with appropriate fluidity, Komljen shows something of the panoramic historical vision of Pasolini—though his vision is resolutely utopian in contrast to the despairs of Salò.
