Julia

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Sigi Rothemund
1974 / 83min / DCP

A rush to cash-in on Kristel’s new sex-bomb star status, shot in the summer of Emmanuelle’s release, Julia is another, very different film about sexual awakening—in this case, that of German boarding school student Pauli (Ekkehardt Belle) who hopes to be relieved of his virginity during a holiday trip to visit his father in Italy, where the delicious possibilities include his father’s new girlfriend, Yvonne (Teri Tordai), and a newly in-bloom childhood friend, Julia (Kristel), whose apparently precocious sexuality acts as a cover for deeper vulnerabilities and fears. More sensitive than its salacious ad campaign would suggest, featuring moments of surreal comedy and genuine catharsis.

Intro by Jeremy Richey, author of Sylvia Kristel: From Emmanuelle to Chabrol Sunday, September 25
