The Eiger Sanction
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Clint Eastwood
1975 / 123min / 35mm
Long before Tom Cruise risked life and limb to get asses in multiplex seats there was The Eiger Sanction, in which totally inexperienced mountain climber/director/star Eastwood, psychotically doing his own stunts, insisted on facing near-constant fatal catastrophe whilst scrambling up sheer Swiss Alpine slopes, all just to amuse his public. Eastwood plays a government assassin named Jonatan Hemlock (!) who’s beckoned out of his deep cover as an art history professor (!!) to do One Last Job (!!!) that involves going undercover with a group of mountaineers preparing to ascend the nastiest mountain in the Bernese Alps. Gorgeous, blissfully brainless, and packed with as much unharnessed pleasure as you can imagine.
