The Bodyguard

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Mick Jackson
Cast: Kevin Costner, Whitney Houston
1992 / 129min / DCP

Whitney Houston, already one of the most successful recording artists of the 1980s, added “movie star” to her resumé with this, her film acting debut, in which the chanteuse plays an R&B diva/actress who, harassed by death threats from an anonymous stalker and fearing for her life, hires on a former Secret Serviceman (Kevin Costner) for protection, only to find herself falling for her stoic escort. Originally developed as a vehicle for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross by screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan all the way back in the ’70s, The Bodyguard was nothing less than a pop culture phenomenon two decades later, with Houston’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” one of a whopping six hits on the soundtrack album, moving some 24 million units, making it the best-selling single by a female artist of all time.
