The third of Truffaut and Léaud’s Antoine Doinel films, this wistful and disarming charmer follows the protagonist of The 400 Blows into an adulthood of the arrested adolescent variety, finding the truant, shiftless Doinel of previous entries older and very little wiser. Fresh out of the army, back in Paris, and still a hopeless, hapless romantic, Antoine fumbles his way into a number of strange gigs, including as a hotel night clerk, private detective, and TV repairman, as well as romances with violinist Christine (Claude Jade) and sophisticated older woman Delphine Seyrig, here giving one of her finest performances.
