The Princess Bride
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Rob Reiner
1987 / 98min / 4K DCP
A fractured fairy tale that subverts clichés even as it reasserts their power, Reiner’s adaptation of William Goldman’s cheeky novel stars an Errol Flynn-esque Cary Elwes as Westley, true-hearted swashbuckling hero set out to save Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) from the nefarious Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). Under a thick layer of old-age make-up putty Carol Kane is clearly having a hoot as the witchy wife of Billy Crystal’s “Miracle Max,” and the price of admission also gets the great Peter Falk and Fred Savage in the sweetly playful framing narrative, wrestler André the Giant giving an Oscar-caliber performance, and a lifetime’s worth of inside jokes.
