Dragon Superman
Director: Satoru Kobayashi, Shao Lo-hui
1968 / 90min / DCP
A breakout success that spawned two sequels in rapid succession, Dragon Superman introduced Taiwanese audiences to the titular masked crusader, by day straight-arrow newspaperman San Lin, by night the bane of the chaos-sowing, satin suit-clad, hydrocephalic members of the Cosmos Gang. Fans of the Adam West Batman series, Mario Bava’s Danger: Diabolik, Japanese tokusatsu pictures, and swinging ’60s superheroics in general will find much to enjoy in this vivacious action romp, starring Kuei Chih-pang as the be-scarfed, motorcycle-riding vigilante, who has his hands full protecting a blind chanteuse (Wu Min), a supermarket magnate (Yang Weixi), and a hunk of Incan gold from the ne’er-do-wells.
