The Time that Remains
Life, as they say, goes on… that is until it doesn’t. It even goes on when you know that the end is very possibly near, and the peculiar effects of this state of affairs on the individual are at the heart of the films in The Time that Remains, a collection of films that take place in the fallout following a terminal (or seemingly terminal) diagnosis. Including features by Kinuyo Tanaka, Ingmar Bergman, Wim Wenders, Agnès Varda, Denys Arcand, and other auteurs from around the globe, the films in this series show responses ranging from heightened urgency to rueful regret to bittersweet acceptance, works that frankly and often very movingly portray the many, frequently contradictory ways that human beings deal with the painful and inevitable fact of having to let go of the lives they’ve built and the people they’ve built them with.
