Nora Aunor: Filipina Superstar
“Nora Aunor is the greatest actress the Philippines has ever produced”—or so said Lino Brocka, arguably the greatest director the Philippines ever produced, and therefore someone whose opinion on such matters carries some weight. Accompanying our run of Brocka’s newly restored 1980 Aunor vehicle Bona, a series dedicated to the actress, singer, producer, and force of nature—“a Filipino icon,” per filmmaker Lav Diaz—who’s too little known outside of her native country, showcasing Aunor’s marvelous focus and versatility through the years in canonical works, such as the agitprop drama Once a Moth.
