Nathan Gelgud Presents Reel Politik

Former projectionist, alt-weekly critic, and now the Court Cartoonist of Cinephilia, Nathan Gelgud’s illustrations, defined by a deceptively simple line that locates and distills into the essential telling detail, have appeared in publications large and small, on tote bags, on T-shirts, and, recently, in Reel Politik, a satirical serial depicting the developing aesthetic/political consciousness of a band of movie theater employees raging against the dying of the cinemagoing experience… and much else besides. To mark the release of the first collection of Reel Politik strips, published by Drawn & Quarterly, Gelgud joins Metrograph to present screenings of two of the comic art-influenced inspirations for his cinema-influenced cartooning, Brian De Palma’s Hi Mom! and Jean-Luc Godard’s La Chinoise, as well as to sign copies of his comic manifesto, a reminder that though the revolution will not be televised, it might be coming to a theater near you.
