Jenni Olson Selects: Mini Masc

One of the world’s leading experts on LGBTQ film history and, for many decades, a champion of LGBTQ cinema and the filmmakers who make it, Jenni Olson joins Metrograph to present Mini Masc, an eclectic, globe-trotting series of films featuring young masc protagonists, ranging in tone from brisk comedy to brooding drama.

“The series offers a rare opportunity to see stories of butch dykes, trans men, and gender nonconforming heroes in cinema, including the nearly-lost, newly restored Yugoslavian/French period tale of a girl raised as a boy, Virgina (1991); the Brazilian transmasc poet biopic Vera (1986); and a wildly popular, but long unavailable Argentinian true-story drama about an orphaned girl living as a boy on the streets of Buenos Aires, La Raulito (1975).” —Series curator Jenni Olson, queer film historian and archivist
