As a founding member of the psych-pop band LEENALCHI and the groundbreaking Korean act SsingSsing, as well as working as a composer in his own right, Jang Young Gyu has long been sought out as collaborator by artists placed at the vanguards of South Korean dance, theater, the visual arts, and—most relevant to our purposes—cinema, finding himself in constant demand after his breakthrough work on Park Chan-wook’s 2002 Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Join us in welcoming Jang, in a rare North American appearance—he will be on tour with LEENALCHI, performing with Geese at Forest Hills on October 2 and Pioneer Works on October 29—with a dynamic and diverse program of films that boast his striking soundscapes, including features by Park, Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan), Na Hong-jin (The Yellow Sea, The Wailing), and Kim Jee-woon (The Foul King, A Bittersweet Life).
