Brecht’s adaptation of Sophocles’s Antigone—concerning the title character’s rebellion against the uncle, King Creon, who has condemned her to death—is performed in its entirety in Straub and Huillet’s final film set in the ancient world, which recalls their 1975 Moses und Aron in its antiquarian setting: the ruins of a Greek theatre in Segesta, Sicily.
