Newly enrolled at an exclusive unisex school in Singapore, 16-year-old Choo Xin Yu (Ranice Tay, a star in the making) finds herself the odd-tomboy-out—until, that is, she finds three classmates who similarly chafe at the suffocating restrictions of their authoritarian home at the Confucian Girls’ Secondary School, the quartet bonding as a gang and together discovering an outlet in committing acts of petty (but extremely risky nevertheless) rebellion, documenting their sprees on the same camcorder that Choo has been using in attempts to capture video evidence that a ghost is haunting her dormitory. A shot-in-the-arm of emancipatory energy that thumbs its nose at the Singaporean culture of state-enforced decorum, featuring one of the most charming central ensembles in recent memory.
