The Wife
Director: Tom Noonan
1995 / 101min / 35mm
The late, lamented Noonan’s second feature as director/writer/lead actor/editor/composer (whew!), born of a theater workshop conducted under the name “Wifey.” Jack and Rita (Noonan and Julie Hagerty), a childless, married pair of New Age-y therapists living in suburban Vermont, receive an unexpected visit from one of Jack’s patients (Shawn, marvelously milquetoast) and his significantly younger wife (Karen Young), this developing into a bibulous evening of confession and rancorous confrontation.
Q&A with screenwriter Wallace Shawn moderated by series curators Lucas Kane and John Early on Friday, May 22nd
