Krabi 2562 preceded by The Ambassadors
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Anocha Suwichakornpong, Ben Rivers
2018 / 104min / DCP
Suwichakornpong’s collaboration with Rivers, another filmmaker who chafes at the limitations of the conventional, linear narrative, produced the predictably unpredictable docufiction Krabi 2562, a study of an island and its inhabitants in the picturesque titular region and “a hybrid multidimensional story unreliably narrated by a cast of real and imagined characters, [weaving] together elements of ethnographic documentary, psychogeography, detective fiction, historical reenactment and camp costumery into a luminous, self-reflexive tapestry of kitsch, noir, elegy and exposé.” [Another Gaze] Screens with an earlier Suwichakornpong and Rivers collaboration, The Ambassadors, which originated as an installation for the first-ever Thai Biennale.
