Alice in Wonderland

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Clyde Geronimi, Hamilton Luske, Wilfred Jackson
1951 / 73min / 35mm

The menagerie that sprang from the fertile imagination of Lewis Carroll—the Cheshire Cat, the Dormouse, the March Hare, that hookah-puffing Caterpillar, and all their outlandish breathern—come to vividly colored life in Disney’s down-the-rabbit-hole musical fantasy, which draws inspiration throughout from Sir John Tenniel’s well-loved illustrations for both Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. An underperformer on its initial release, Alice would emerge as a favorite on ’70s college campuses when adopted by turned-on longhairs as a work of proto-psychedelia, and has since firmly ensconced itself in the Disney canon, with Sammy Hain and Bob Hilliard’s title tune becoming a jazz standard.
