Orangey more than holds his own in a stacked ensemble cast including Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone in this late 19th-century–set horror spoof from maestro Tourneur, concerning Waldo Trumbull (Price), a toper operating a funeral parlor in the quaint New England town of New Gilead, who, facing a downturn in business, decides to do something to notch up the local death rate. Billed here as Rhubarb, our cat-agonist is on-hand throughout, along for the ride when Trumbull and his assistant (Lorre) make a house call on their Shakespeare-spouting landlord (Rathbone), and can be consistently relied upon for priceless reverse-motion reaction shots.
Unfortunately, due to significant red-fade in the 35mm print, this film will be presented in a high-resolution digital file
