A Useful Ghost
Director: Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke
2025 / 130min / DCP
Winner of the Grand Prix at last year’s Semaine de la Critique at Cannes, Ratchapoom’s freewheeling feature debut is a spicy stew of disparate genre ingredients concerning a family-run appliance factory where, following the death of an employee, raucous ghosts commence to possessing various contraptions and generally making mischief—good news for the owner’s grieving son (Wisarut Himmarat), reunited with his late wife when her spirit takes up residence in a vacuum cleaner. A film of dizzying tonal shifts and absurdist wit, by turns seriously silly and unexpectedly moving, and without question the work of a major emerging talent.
