Uncle Mustache + Journey + Waiting
Director: Bahram Beyzaie, Amir Naderi
1972 / 107min / 4K DCP
A trio of midlength films closely concerned with the world of childhood, from two principal architects of the Iranian New Wave. Beyzaie’s abiding relish in children and their horseplay is on display in his debut Uncle Moustache, which concerns the encounter between a crotchety old man and a pack of unruly youngsters; in Journey, a 12-year-old orphan on an ongoing search for new parents tours the seedy outskirts of Tehran with a friend in tow; in Waiting, a visually ravishing dialogue-free work—considered by the director as a precursor to his The Runner, also shot in Naderi’s native southern Iran—a boy goes about his daily ritual of filling a glass bowl with ice, then making his way home.
Uncle Mustache (Bahram Beyzaie, 1970, 28 mins)
