Jockey

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Clint Bentley
2021 / 94min / DCP

Banged-up jockey Jackson Silva (Clinton Collins Jr.) is at the end of a decades-long career, but the old pro still believes he has one more championship in him, with a little help from his longtime trainer (Molly Parker) and her latest thoroughbred acquisition, of course. Nagging health issues, though, and the appearance of a rookie rider (Moises Arias) who claims to be Jackson’s son ensure that any possible path to victory will be far from straight and narrow. With Bentley drawing on his insider knowledge of the horseflesh trade—his father was a rider—and a soulful, lived-in, beautifully nuanced central performance from Collins Jr., Jockey is a work singly authentic in both detail and emotion.

"Many of the ideas and approaches that I began to explore on Jockey were developed further on Train Dreams and I’m so excited to present the two films together. It is a real honor to be doing this retrospective at the Metrograph." - Clint Bently
