Dream of Light

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Victor Erice
1992 / 133min / 35mm

Erice, best known for his visually ravishing 1973 Spirit of the Beehive, here focuses his camera on Madrileño painter Antonio López as he goes about the daily labor of artistic creation, meticulously struggling to accurately capture a quince tree in his garden and the play of light in its leaves with hopes of finishing his canvas before the time comes for the fruit to fall. A rapturous docufiction study in patience and painstaking observation, whose minimal narrative yields maximal rewards. “Should be watched appreciatively and peacefully, in keeping with the tranquility of the material… A thoughtful, delicate inquiry into the essence of the artistic process, and a tribute to the beauty and mutability of nature.” —The New York Times

Introduction by The Theater of the Matters co-curator Graham Carter on Saturday, July 26th
