Slow Century

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Lance Bangs
2002 / 85min / DCP

Drawing on live concert footage of Pavement taken over the course of 11 years—including much from what was billed as their “final” show in London, in 1999—and interviews with the members of the band, Thurston Moore, and others, Bangs’s documentary traces the unlikely rise and ultimate demise of the Stockton, California five-piece, from sloppy lo-fi basement jams with wingnut original drummer Gary Young to MTV airplay, major label recognition, and not always well received festival slots. (Witness here “The Band That Ruined Lollapallooza” being pelted with detritus by an angry Atlanta crowd.) Captures the quintessential US “indie” act of the decade in all their shambolic charm.

Filmmaker Lance Bangs will show rare and unreleased footage from his archives followed by a Q&A moderated by writer Vikram Murthi on Saturday, July 19th
