Moulin Rouge!
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Baz Luhrman
2001 / 137min / DCP
Luhrmann closed his “Red Curtain Trilogy” out with a bang with this proudly anachronistic jukebox musical, set in a Sydney soundstage-constructed fin de siècle Montmartre ripped straight from the sketchbooks of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, where courtesans, penniless playwrights, and Toulouse-Lautrec himself (played by John Leguizamo) burst out into the songs of Nirvana, Madonna, Queen, Elton John, and other Belle Époque favorites. Leads Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor are at their most radiant as, respectively, the star performer at the titular cabaret and the ink-stained wretch who loves her, both perfectly attuned to the operatic excess of the spectacle swirling around them.
