An Afternoon with Mika Rottenberg: REMOTE
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Mika Rottenberg, Mahyad Tousi
2022 / 92min / Digital
Argentine-born, New York-based video artist Rottenberg, in a collaboration between Metrograph and Hauser & Wirth gallery, joins us for a screening of her debut feature-length work Remote, co-directed with Mahyad Tousi, described by Rottenberg as “Jeanne Dielman during a pandemic in the future.” In a world where anchorite self-seclusion has become the norm, Unoaku (Okwui Okpokwasili) discovers a mysterious portal inside her home, an incident that likewise befalls four other women living in all corners of the globe, connected by their shared fandom for a baffling online interactive game and a South Korean online personality’s dog-grooming show. An absurdist meditation on the disappearance of shared social space and the dissolving of physical reality into the digital ether.
Q&A with artist Mika Rottenberg moderated by writer Nikki Columbus on Saturday, May 17th
