A program of two short works featuring the music of Shimizu. Pace (1990), directed by Hiroyuki Nakano, known principally for his music video work, is a visually ravishing, freewheeling film made for direct-to-laserdisc featuring musicians Haruomi Hosono and Kitarou Mai Kitajima and translator Alfred Birnbaum as photographers. Nam June Paik’s Bye Bye Kipling (1986) is a globe-trotting selection of satellite-linked performances, with a duet between Shimizu and Ryuichi Sakamoto alongside appearances by Philip Glass, Lou Reed, and Keith Haring. The screening of Pace will be without English subtitles.
