Director: Pedro Almodóvar
2024 / 107min / 4K DCP

Weinberg gracefully adapts Almodóvar’s flamboyant and distinctly Spanish aesthetic to the environs of Manhattan and upstate New York in the director’s first film set entirely outside of his native country and first English-language feature, an adaptation of Sigrid Nunez’s novel What Are You Going Through starring Julianne Moore as a best-selling writer who resumes her relationship with ailing war journalist friend Tilda Swinton after a long pause, a process that involves exchanging pointed opinions and life and art; exhuming old memories, shared and otherwise; and facing the hard facts of mortality. A beautiful translation of the Almodóvarian melodrama into American accents, with Moore and Swinton both at the peak of their formidable powers.

“I’ve been a fan of Pedro’s films since I was a teenager, so it was a dream come true collaborating with him on his latest film. It is a rare pleasure to work with a filmmaker whose body of work is so extensive that it becomes its own reference. While working with Pedro, I investigated his earlier films for visual clues and codes. All About My Mother remains my favorite film of Pedro’s, incorporating recurring themes that are essential to the Almodovarian universe.” —Inbal Weinberg
