Working as a customs officer in the Swedish port of Kapellskär, Tina (Eva Melander, wearing disfiguring prostheses) is a self-described “ugly strange human” whose almost supernatural ability to (literally) sniff out contraband makes her indispensable at her post, her life turned upside down when she encounters Vore (Eero Milonoff), a man whose Neanderthal-like facial features resemble her own, and who will introduce troll lore, unusual culinary and erotic experiments, and a bit of child trafficking into her staid existence. Adapted from a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, whose novel Let the Right One In inspired two films of the same name.
