Children of Paradise
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Marcel Carné
1945 / 189min / DCP
Widely regarded as the pinnacle accomplishment of the French film industry in the years of the German Occupation—and featuring many undercover members of the Resistance among its army of extras—Carné’s film, featuring exquisitely nimble dialogue courtesy of poet and screenwriter Jacques Prévert, lays its scene in 1830s Paris, recreated in grand scale by storied production designer Alexandre Trauner, where celebrated mime Baptiste (Jean-Louis Barrault) is among the four suitors who pine for scandal-prone actress and courtesan Garance (Arletty)… and hope to be her salvation when she’s falsely accused of complicity in an attempted murder. “I would give up all my films to have directed Les Enfants du Paradis.” —François Truffaut
After close inspection by our projectionists, we determined that unfortunately the available 35mm print of CHILDREN OF PARADISE was very brittle and had too many splice repairs to safely run through our projector. The damage would also negatively impact the quality of the projection, so we will instead project the film on the best available format, DCP.
