One of the through lines in Cohen’s filmmaking, and the focus of this program of shorts, is his engagement with an eclectic variety of music being made—much like his cinema—outside of mainstream channels. Screening will include a number of collaborations with singular drummer Jim White, including work with lute player Giorgos Xylouris, guitarist Marisa Anderson, and Or Nothing, the extremely rare document of a Brooklyn rooftop performance by White and guitarist Emmett Kelly’s mysterious duo, The Double. The evening will also include Lucky Three, a portrait of singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Other works are to be determined, as Cohen and Evans are aiming for a loose and engaged evening of sonic reflection and surprise.
