Afterschool
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Antonio Campos
2008 / 107min / 35mm
Internet-addled, emotionally disturbed prep school kid Robert (Ezra Miller), who has taken to using his new video camera as a buffer between the real world and himself, captures the overdose deaths of two classmates while on a school assignment, an incident which will have widespread repercussions for his frayed psyche and the elite institution he attends. A work whose gelid, subjective style is indebted to Frederick Wiseman and Michael Haneke both.
βThe force of Afterschool can be experienced in one pivotal scene: with camera askew and characters mostly hidden from view, Campos deftly captures teen angst slowly bubbling beneath the surface.β β Daniel Chew
Q&A with director Antonio Campos moderated by filmmakers Micaela Durand and Daniel Chew on Saturday, December 14th
