Schoolboy Boong’s father has been conspicuously silent since leaving the family’s hometown of Manipur for Moreh, near the Indian-Myanmar border, in search of employment—but rather than accept rumors of his father’s death, the intrepid Boong instead sets out with his best friend, Raju, to hit the road and discover the truth, a single photograph their only guide. A heartfelt, frequently hilarious feature debut from Devi, part of a rising generation of new female filmmakers out of India, addressing the rising ethno-racial conflicts in the country with subtlety and nuance, and boasting superlative child performances by Gugun Kipgen as Boon and Angom Sanamatum as the Rajasthani outsider Raju.
