Skate Kitchen preceded by Window Feel

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Crystal Moselle, Mukunda Angulo
2018 / 106min / DCP

Initiated, like her breakthrough The Wolfpack, by a chance encounter—in this case with two members of the eponymous all-female skateboarding crew during a subway ride—Moselle’s Skate Kitchen features real members of the collective (Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Kabrina “Moonbear” Adams, Ajani Russell, and others) performing a dramatization of their own lives developed via months of improvisation exercises, resulting in a loose, entirely winning docudrama of rolled joints and rolled ankles, lent a miraculous freshness and spontaneity by the nonprofessional cast and DP Shabier Kirchner’s nimble, speed-of-life camerawork. “Intensely likable and sympathetic… [with a] seductively laid-back documentary realist style.” —The Guardian.

The film screens with the breakthrough short documentary Window Feel, a DIY family portrait shot by Mukunda Angulo, one of The Wolfpack. “Window feel is a journey of a person experiencing emotional connections through a window, in the dark trapped in a chair until one emotion may set their heart free.” —Mukunda Angulo
