Director: Marc'O _
1968 / 105min / DCP
Multihyphenate artist and Lettrist rabble-rouser Marc’O adapted his own stage play, developed for the Left Bank’s Center for Theater and Experimentation on Actor performance—with the original cast in tow—into this subversive, psychedelic musical satire of pop idolatry in the heyday of “Yé-Yé,” starring Bulle Ogier (in her feature debut), Pierre Clémenti, and Jean-Pierre Kalfon as a trio of industry-manufactured chart toppers who discourse on their origin myths when not frenetically frugging their way through musical numbers, then finally turning against their handlers, owners, and fickle, bloodthirsty “public.” Featuring florid costuming by Jean Bouqin, fantastical sets by Laurent Gire, nimble cutting by a young Jean Eustache, and Pommereulle as a priest presiding over Ogier and Clémenti’s publicity stunt wedding, alongside a singing nun.
