Norwegian Wood

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Tran Anh Hung
2010 / 133min / DCP

A passion project for Tran, this lyric adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s breakthrough novel of sexual awakening, romance, and regret amidst the tumult of late 1960s Japan, concerning a college student (Kenichi Matsuyama) who finds himself, in the wake of a friend’s inexplicable suicide, torn between two very different women, the saturnine Naoko (Rinko Kikuchi), ex-girlfriend of the deceased, and the vivacious Midori (Kiko Mizuhara), Naoko’s opposite in every way. Featuring an original score from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, made with a nylon-string guitar and vintage recording equipment, and staggering ‘Scope cinematography by Lee, Norwegian Wood is “a very sensual, sexy movie that virtually gorges on its own erotic melancholy.” —The Guardian
