A poignant, pithy comedy of mortification from Hong, in which the signature style and thematic preoccupations of his later work appear almost fully coalesced, the mk2 co-produced Woman Is the Future of Man stars Yu Ji-tae and Kim Tae-woo as two old college pals: a married-but-unfaithful university art professor and a filmmaker freshly returned from a US film school. Reunited and in a nostalgic frame of mind, the pair decide to revisit the scenes of their individual romances with the same woman then, and then, with judgment increasingly impaired by drink, opt to find the woman herself (Seong Hyeon-a), with hilariously discomfiting results.
