Bruce Willis—who also co-wrote the film’s story and its theme song—stars as Eddie Hawkins, aka “Hudson Hawk,” a newly paroled ex-safe-cracker and cat burglar extraordinaire who’s pulled back into the business by corporate blackmailers who need his expertise in order to pilfer elements from a variety of Leonardo da Vinci artworks that will allow them to build a machine to convert lead into gold. An infamous flop at the time of its release, Willis’s winningly idiosyncratic passion project has since attracted a dedicated coterie of fans with its singular combination of cartoonish, surreal slapstick humor and high-concept, low-tech set pieces.
