Director: Dieudo Hamadi
2014 / 90min / DCP
Expelled from high school for unpaid tuition fees, a group of young men and women in the city of Kisangani attempt to prepare on their own to take the national exam, which they must pass in order to have any hope of post-secondary education. A sharply observed verité work, Hamadi’s film offers a subtle but unmistakable critique of the education system in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the traces of colonial corruption that persist within it.
