Vicuña visits Metrograph to present a program pairing two of her longer moving-image works: 1983’s Paracas, an animation of a 2,000-year old textile made using a three-dimensional looping technique unique to a pre-Columbian civilization in modern-day Peru, and 2010’s “documentary-poem” Kon Kon, in which a visit to the beaches of Concón, Chile, provides Vicuña the opportunity to reflect on her own artmaking practice, the indigenous sonido rajado music tradition, and the impact the construction of an oil refinery in the 1950s has had on the region.
